Utilising the same technology as Zimbra Web Application, Zimbra Desktop features intuitive navigation, supports customisations, and is built with security in mind. Zimbra's goal is to provide a consistent user experience across all device types, and the desktop application replicates almost all the functionality available in the Zimbra Web App.

Zimbra Desktop allows you to manage your email whether you are connected to the internet (Online) or not (Offline)
When Online
You have full access to all Zimbra Web App functionalities. You can access data both from your mail server and your local storage.
When Offline
Most core mail-related functionalities are available. While you can perform many actions offline, they are executed only when you regain an online connection. For example, an email you send offline will only leave your Outbox once you are online again. When offline, your access is limited to the data stored locally on your computer..
Offline Features
What you can do Offline includes:
View emails and download attachments.
Reply, Reply All, Forward, Compose, and Send emails.
Manage emails: Mark as read, Star / Unstar, Mark as spam, Archive, Delete, Move an email.
Create sub-folders under 'Local Folders'.
Use the Message View and all formatting options in the Mail Composer.
Perform Search using limited keywords: from, to, cc, subject, in, has, date.
Access limited events in Calendar and limited contacts.
Folder context menu options like Import, Share, Export, and Empty folder.
Trash folder options including Empty Trash and Recover discarded mail.
Online Features
Features additionally available Online:
Mail context menu options such as Tag, Block, Print, New Event, New Filter, Show Original, and Add Sender to Contacts.
Schedule Send.
Create, Edit, or Delete tags.
Access to all contacts or all calendar items.
Meeting invite actions like Accept, Tentative, Decline, or Propose New Time.
Conversation View.
Mail Preview Pane settings.
Advanced Search.

Your Data, Secured
The Zimbra Desktop app downloads your mailbox data directly to your desktop's local storage. Because of this, it is very important to keep your local data secured.
Zimbra recommends using disk encryption to protect your mailbox information on your desktop. Using disk encryption helps prevent data theft by making the data stored on your hard drive unreadable to unauthorised users. Zimbra suggests using the disk encryption method recommended by your computer's operating system.
